Sony Assurance Supports Bone Marrow Donors
—Plaudits from the Japan Marrow Donor Association for the Bone Marrow Donor Support Rider

September 7, 2007

Sony Assurance Inc., a wholly-owned subsidiary of Sony Financial Holdings, has announced plans to add a bone marrow donor support rider—free of charge—to its SURE medical and cancer insurance policy offerings from November 1, 2007.

This policy rider for SURE policyholders is designed to lessen the financial burden of donating bone marrow, encouraging them to take this step. The policy provides a lump-sum payment of ¥100,000 to donors who undergo operations to donate bone marrow for the harvesting of stem cells, as well as the daily hospitalization benefit elected at the time of entering the agreement for the hospitalization period.

When introducing this policy rider, Sony Assurance interviewed Japan Marrow Donor Program ("JMDP") personnel who operate the program's bone marrow bank. This information is also posted on the company's website.

JMDP made a number of favorable comments about Sony Assurance's activities, such as "Its bone marrow bank operations are meaningful." "The bone marrow donor support rider serves as a backup plan for bone marrow donor candidates." and "In the future, we hope that the introduction of such products as the bone marrow donor support rider will become standard practice throughout the insurance industry." Sony Assurance considers its operations a success if its website or product pamphlets encourage even one additional person to register for a donation, providing encouragement to people waiting for bone marrow transplants.

By introducing such products as the bone marrow donor support rider, Sony Assurance contributes to society through its non-life insurance offerings. Moving forward, the company will continue to meet society's needs for non-life insurance, contributing to society in line with the company slogan "Feel the Difference."
