Sony Life Insurance Co., Ltd., a wholly-owned subsidiary of Sony Financial Holdings, made a financial donation to The Eye Mate, Inc., on February 23, 2009. Through this donation to Eye Mate, which trains seeing-eye dogs for the visually impaired, Sony Life hopes to help these people participate more fully in society.
Sony Life encourages employees to take part in social contribution activities as part of its corporate endeavors. Sony Life first began contributing to Eye Mate in the fiscal year ended March 31, 1998, to help visually impaired people participate more actively in society. In this fiscal year ending March 31, 2009, Sony Life's employees donated ¥5.89 million for this purpose. Sony Life added its own special donation to this fund, raising the total contribution to ¥11.79 million. This donation raises Sony Life's cumulative contribution to the education of seeing-eye dogs to approximately ¥133.16 million.
In addition to continuing to make donations to Eye Mate, Sony Life is considering the possibility of expanding these efforts by also contributing to the rearing of puppies and the care of retired seeing-eye dogs. Through its increased contributions to the field of seeing-eye dog training, Sony Life hopes to help visually impaired people participate in society even more fully than ever before.
